Essex Lions Club Membership Description

By joining the Essex Lions Club you will become part of one of the largest service organizations in the world.   Locally the club administers approximately $20,000 in scholarships for high school seniors each year, sponsors the local Boy Scout troop and performs a highway cleanup of Route 133.  We raise funds through our annual Turkey Trot 8K Road Race and food tents at Essex River Day and the Clamfest.   The Club supports Lions International eye research and  attempts to meet as many ad hoc  requests as possible.  The time commitment in being a member is minimal and we always have fun.   For further information please email info@essexmalions.com.

Club History
The Essex Lions Club was chartered on February 17, 1955, as part of the largest service organization in the world, Lions Clubs International. We are part of Massachusetts District 33N.
Our motto of "We Serve" and logo of L.I.O.N.S. (Liberty, Intelligence, Our Nation's Safety) have guided us through almost fifty years of service to our community, state, national, and international brothers and sisters.

Senior Recognition Night
Essex is a small town north of Boston with a population of 3,700 people and until 1997 had no high school of its own. As a result, the town students would, through various means such as school choice, tuition programs with adjoining towns or private schools, be split up throughout the North Shore area to attend high school. Thirty years ago the Essex Lions Club started an annual Senior Recognition Dinner to reunite all graduating  high school seniors along with their parents and former elementary school teachers for a trip down memory lane, At the dinner, presentations of local scholarships were made, and last year the scholarships were in excess of $20,000.00.
